Christmas came around sooner than Lovino expected and he was stuck with a decision. He could stay and be with his friends and his family or he could go back to Italy and spend the holidays with his grandfather. Of course, Romulus insisted he stay but Lovino didn't know if he could handle being around everyone at once. Of course there was always the third option: staying home alone with his cat. That didn't sound like a Christmas to be proud of but the closer the day came, the more tempting it was.
A fourth option arose, however, out of the blue. It was his last day of work before he planned to take time off for the holidays and Valentino stopped by his office. The young man was all excited because Lovino had given him a full week's vacation since he wouldn't need him while vacationing himself. Lovino was packing up to leave when Valentino arrived.
"Signore! I'm glad I could catch you," Valentino said. "Um... I was wondering... I mean I'm sure you have plans. Actually, I probably shouldn't even bother asking..."
"Just ask," Lovino said. "Or else stop wasting my time. Spit it out."
"Um, I'd like to invite you over for la cena di Natale."
Lovino raised an eyebrow. "Why?"
"Uh, well... My parents are flying in and they said they wanted to meet my boss. I told them you'd be busy though so--"
"--Where is it?" Lovino cut in, trying to stop his assistant's rambling.
Valentino blinked. "Where? Oh, wait... You're actually coming?"
Lovino rolled his eyes. "Unless you don't want me there."
"No, no! I do! I just thought you'd be busy since it was your plan to take the holidays off..."
"I just needed a break."
"Okay, bene! My place... My place..." Valentino took a pen and a Post-It off Lovino's desk and wrote down his address. "Is five o'clock good for you?"
"."
Valentino stood nervously. "Oh um, you can bring your..." He looked around and his voice dropped to a whisper. "...partner too. My parents are cool."
Lovino looked at him then turned away. "No, he's not coming."
"Huh? Oh, okay. I just thought--"
"--He has plans."
"Okay, no problem, signore!" He beamed. "I'll see you at my place at five then?"
Lovino nodded. "Ciao, Valentino."
Valentino went to the door. "Ciao, ciao, signore Vargas!"
Lovino waved as Valentino left. He sat at his desk a little longer and sighed. He honestly didn't really want to meet Valentino's family but it was a pretty good distraction from his other possible plans. After a bit, he packed up and left for home.

"Toni. Come out, s'il vous plaît."
Antonio had locked himself away in his room when he was told Lovino wasn't coming for Christmas. It had been a very long time since he'd spent one without him.
Francis sighed, knocking again. "Toni, Noël won't be the same without you..."
"It won't be the same without Lovi!" Antonio replied.
"You know he's going to his assistant's home."
"I don't care... Valentino doesn't need him, I do."
Gilbert got home around then and groaned when he saw that Francis was at Antonio's door for the billionth time.
"He's not coming out, huh?" the German said as he took off his coat.
"Non, he won't do anything without Lovino," Francis pouted.
"'Kay, I'm going in," Gilbert said heading to the kitchen.
"The door's locked," Francis called to him.
"You have a spare key, right?"
"Oui, mais... It's his privacy," Francis said.
"Since when do you care about privacy?" Gilbert asked coming back with a bag of ice cubes.
"Gilbert... You're evil."
"Uh huh, get the door open."
Francis took out Antonio's bedroom key from his pocket and unlocked the door. The room was dark when they opened it but Spain mewed to them from the bed to give them direction.
"Gilbert's coming in," Francis said.
Antonio groaned as he cuddled his cat. "Go away..."
"Nein, it's wake up time," Gilbert said with a grin. He walked over to Antonio trying not to let the ice cubes jingle about. Once he was by the Spaniard's bed, he stuck his hand in the bag. "Last chance to get up."
"Gilbert, I'm not in the mood..."
"Oh well... Don't say I didn't warn you."
A cold hand full of wet freezing ice cubes plunged down the back of Antonio's pyjamas and Francis absolutely wished he'd filmed it. The Spaniard leapt up so quickly you would have thought a bomb exploded under him. He yelled out and squirmed trying to get the ice out of his shirt. Spain ran out of the room in fear while Gilbert stood beside the bed laughing his ass off. Once Antonio had managed to get the last of the ice out, he shivered and glared at Gilbert.
"That's not funny!"
Gilbert coughed trying to catch his breath. "You don't know how funny it is!"
Antonio frowned deeply but Gilbert just hugged him, pinning him down on the bed. Francis joined in too and laid down on top of them both.
"Ah! So heavy!" Antonio said struggling.
"Toni, just give up already," Gilbert said. "We've won."
Antonio sighed but reluctantly gave in and stopped moving. He sniffled and hugged his pillow. "I hate you guys..."
"We love you too," Francis said.
Gilbert patted Antonio's head. "We know you're heartbroken. We get it."
"Well Gilbert definitely gets it after his heartbreaks..." Francis said.
"Shut up Francis!" Gilbert snapped. "Anyway, Toni. You may feel alone but you're not. We're here, idiot."
Antonio sighed and relaxed some. "But it's not the same..."
"Of course it's not," Francis said. "Neither of us can chew you out like Lovino can but that doesn't mean our friendship is nothing. We're here to support you but we can't do that if you hide away like a troll. Are you a troll?"
"No..."
"Then stop hiding. Come out and see the daylight."
"It's nighttime..."
"You know what he means," Gilbert said. "Stop changing the subject."
"You guys are the worst," Antonio grumbled.
"That's what makes us the best," Gilbert said squeezing him. "Now, get up."
"I can't."
Francis chuckled and stood up off of Gilbert but Gilbert didn't follow suit just yet.
"Promise you won't hide anymore."
"I promise..."
Gilbert got up then and stood aside. Antonio groaned then sat up. He rubbed his red eyes. "Are you happy?"
"Come have dinner."
"I'm not hungry..."
"Don't give us that." Gilbert pulled him up to his feet. "You've barely eaten anything since Lovino broke up with you. If you don't eat, you're gonna faint."
"Okay..."
Gilbert wrapped his arm around Antonio's shoulder and the three of them walked out to enjoy their meal.
