Author note: I usually don't butt in part way through a fic but I've been getting a lot of feedback that these last few chapters have been emotional so I've decided to go ahead of this chapter and offer up a tissue box. Here you go. :iconfreevitalregionsplz: WHOOPS, wrong pocket! Here it is::icontissueplz: Enjoy the chapter~

When Gilbert and Francis got to the hospital, Francis made a b-line for the elevators but Arthur beckoned them both from the front desk.
"Don't just rush up there," he said. "It's family only right now and I know you'll both just ignore the receptionist upstairs so I'm stopping you here."
"I'm a doctor and Gilbert's family!" Francis said. "We're allowed."
"I know but you're not listening to me," Arthur continued. "It's in everyone's best interest for you two let Feliciano see Ludwig and Lovino first so he isn't crowded. Plus, just because you're a doctor, Francis, doesn't mean you can go wherever you want."
Gilbert pursed his lips. "You expect us to wait?"
"Antonio's been waiting here for an hour already," Arthur said pointing to their friend who waved to them from the waiting area. "So go sit down and I'll call up for you."
The pair frowned but obeyed going to join Antonio. He smiled to them half-heartedly.
"Is it true you've been here for an hour?" Francis asked.
"Maybe forty-five minutes..." Antonio explained. "I drove Lovi here but Arthur wouldn't let me upstairs."
"He's such a prick..." Gilbert said.
"But he's right," Francis said. "It's probably best to let Lovino and Ludwig, his closest family, see him first. Brother-in-law and almost brother-in-law aren't priority."
"Si, but I'm still worried..."
"Lovino hasn't texted you or anything?" Gilbert asked.
"The last one was ten minutes ago saying he woke up again. I texted him back a few times but he hasn't answered."
"Well, he's awake so that's good, right?" Gilbert asked.
"Yes, it should be," Francis said. "It means we should be able to see him soon."
"I hope so..." Antonio rubbed his thighs. "So, how's Marina? She doesn't know yet, does she?"
"No and she's fine," Francis said. "Matthew's watching her at the condo."
"I should probably text him..." Gilbert said taking out his phone. "What should I tell him about Feli?"
"Well, we don't know much other than that he's awake so you can say that and ask how things are with Marina."
"Alright." Gilbert sent the text and waited. He got a response a few minutes later. "He sends his hopes that everything’s okay and he says Marina's pretty much absorbed in her TV shows so everything's calm."
"That's good," Francis said. "I feel a bit bad that we just forced her upon him..."
"Me too but I think it would've been too soon to bring her here," Gilbert said. "And he did offer..."
"That's true... Anyway, a little bit of babysitting will be good for him," Francis said.
The three of them waited for a while more, mostly just using their phones to keep themselves occupied. Matthew sent Gilbert a few pictures of the drawings he and Marina were creating and made him guess what they were. Gilbert shared them with his friends so they were all lighthearted before Arthur called to them.
"You three can go up now," he said. "But tread lightly, you hear me?"
"But of course, Arthur," Francis said getting up. "Why wouldn't we?"
"I'm just saying it because the nurses upstairs say it was getting rather emotional so be prepared."
"But he's awake so they should be happy, right?" Gilbert asked.
Arthur didn't say anything so they went upstairs anyhow.
The halls of the recovery floor were calm, with nurses and doctors going about their business casually which was a reassuring sight for the visitors. Francis led them to Feliciano's room near the end of the hall and stopped outside the door, knocking twice before slowly entering, the two others following quietly.
Feliciano lay in bed, recovering well it seemed as he was awake and smiled to them fleetingly. From what they could tell, he had suffered most of the damage from the accident on his right side and now nursed a broken arm and surgical wounds all bandaged up. Apart from that, cuts and bruises were well hidden under bandaging making him comfortably presentable. However the mood in the room was very far from comfortable.
On his right, Lovino sat staring down at Feliciano's currently casted hand in his, his cheeks stained from evident crying. He glared at the arrivals when they came in however Antonio could tell it was not as much a look of resentment as it was more a cry for comfort.
On Feliciano's left, however, Ludwig was in worse shape. He trembled, holding his husband's other hand to his forehead and seemingly using it to hide the tears that would not cease to fall from his eyes. He avoided all eye contact with the new arrivals but looked up enough to exchange a quick kiss with Feliciano before leaving the room quickly. Gilbert wasn't sure whether or not he should follow his brother and stood looking from Feliciano to the door and back again. Francis decided for him, rubbing his arm and gently pulling him to sit in the chair Ludwig had just evacuated. Antonio went to give Lovi a hug and Francis stood, tempted to read the patients chart but didn't want to look disrespectful. Instead, he cleared his throat and went to stand by Gilbert.
"Good afternoon, Feli," he said softly. "It's very relieving to see you up like this. How are you feeling?"
"Well..." Feliciano started slowly, his voice faintly hoarse. "...My throat hurts a little but otherwise I feel okay."
"They have him on a lot of drugs..." Lovino said bluntly. "If not, he'd be screaming like a baby..."
"Lovi..." Feliciano said in a slightly pleading voice.
"It's alright..." Francis said. "I'm glad you feel well. Would you like some water for your throat?"
"Luddy already got me some," he answered pointing to the bedside table where there was a tray with a pitcher and a few glasses. "He's been really nice since I woke up, taking care of me and everything... He even brought our bed sheets from home so I'd be comfortable."
"That's the Beilschmidt charm in action," Gilbert said, rubbing Feliciano's arm. "Of course I taught him."
Feliciano smiled a bit more and nodded. "He's always so kind..."
Antonio pursed his lips. "We missed you, Feli. I'm glad to see you so well after what we were told happened."
"Do you remember what happened?" Gilbert asked.
"Yeah, a little bit..." Feliciano closed his eyes for a second to think. "Ludwig filled me in on most of it since I didn't really see... He says a drunk driver hit us like this..." Feliciano made a 'T' by placing his mobile arm perpendicular to his broken one. "I just remember the crashing noises and things but that's about it... I don't remember anything else from that point until I woke up. Luddy says I was in surgery and asleep for almost twenty-four hours."
"It's true," Francis said. "You were in surgery a few times last night. But the surgeons did a very good job and you were very resilient to the damage. You should be proud of yourself."
Feliciano almost chuckled but the action pained him so he tried not to. "I was out pretty long then... How's Marina? You didn't bring her here, did you? Luddy said Gil was watching her."
"Nein, we didn't want to bring her until we were sure everything's okay so we wouldn't scare her," Gilbert said. "She's at our place with Matthew. I hope that's okay."
"Sì, that's perfectly fine," Feliciano said. "That's a very good plan I think too... I wouldn't want her to see me like this... I must be so ugly with the bandages..."
"Mais, non... Feliciano, you look fine," Francis said. "If anything, you look more striking with the roughed up look to you."
"Really?" Feliciano asked. "So, I look cool like Luddy?"
"Of course," the three new visitors agreed and he smiled.
"Grazie," he said blushing. "You are such good friends."
They smiled back to him and for a second the mood had lightened. But it was destroyed when Lovino suddenly snapped.
"Stop it!" he barked. "Basta, Feliciano!"
"Stop what, Lovi?" Feliciano asked turning his head to look at his brother. "What's wrong?"
"You know damn well what's wrong! Stop smiling! Stop faking it!"
"I'm not faking..." Feliciano said shakily. "Lovi, it's okay..."
"It's not okay!" Lovino said getting up. "Don't act like it is!"
"Lovi..."
"Stop acting like everything is alright and that you're happy and what happened didn't exist!" Lovino spat, slapping away Antonio's comforting hand.
Feliciano was tearing up. "The car accident happened but everyone's alright and that's what matters..."
"Everyone's not alright! What about the baby?!"
"Lovi!" Feliciano's voice was sharp and warning but futile. The damage was done despite the few seconds it took for the information to sink in.
"...A baby?" Antonio responded first, his hand hovering as he had been about to grab Lovino.
"What does he mean, Feli?" Gilbert said.
Feliciano looked at them each before dropping his head into his hand and sobbing. Lovino suddenly realised the pain he had caused and sat back down, gently rubbing his brother's shoulder.
"Mi d-dispiace... Feli..." he said punching a few tears from his own face. "I was out of line..."
"N-no, it's okay..." Feliciano said desperately wiping his eyes. "It's not your fault... You were right... I was trying...so hard to be brave..."
"Feliciano..." Francis said soothingly, "What happened?"
"I-I..." Feliciano stumbled, his one hand beginning to pick at his cast. "Thursday, I found out I was pregnant..."
"Oh, Feli..." Gilbert hugged the little Italian, feeling how frail and shaky he was. "...You lost the baby?"
Feliciano nodded, holding Gilbert tight and sobbing into his shoulder. "I told Ludwig right before the accident... I dis-distracted him... Because of me, he di-didn't see the other driver..."
"No, it's not your fault," Gilbert said, waving the others into the hug. "I'm so so sorry, Feli. But I promise, we're here for you..."
Feli nodded again and sniffled. "C-can you comfort Ludwig? He really needs it..."
"Ja, of course." Gilbert said handing Feliciano a tissue from a Kleenex box on the bedside table. "Francis, Tonio... Stay with Feli. I'm going to go talk to Lud."
They nodded so he quickly grabbed a few more tissues and left to find Ludwig. It didn't take long since his brother was sitting right beside the door with his head in his knees. Gilbert eased himself down to sit beside him and pushed a tissue between his legs.
"Feli told us about the baby..." he said, rubbing the blond's shoulder. "Ludwig, I'm so sorry..."
Ludwig sniffled and looked away. He never liked to show his tears so Gilbert respectfully looked down to his feet.
Ludwig blew his nose and then passed a hand through his hair. "The doctor's did their best... but they couldn't save it because of the internal trauma...and from all the scaring left from the surgery...it's very likely...he'll never conceive again."
Gilbert was speechless. His heart dropped to his stomach and he swallowed hard to gather himself. "...Never?"
Ludwig nodded. "Never."
Gilbert gritted his teeth and looked away. "Lud..."
"Just don't...say anything."
Gilbert nodded and instead of speaking, wrapped an arm around his little brother's shoulder. Ludwig leaned into the hold and allowed his big brother to rock him from side to side slowly.
They sat like this in silence for a while until eventually Ludwig had cried himself out and found the strength to get back up and go into the room again.

I had earned that 'You Win!' badge from the beginning. I didn't cry or teared up one bit. I am a souless creature that doesn't have sad feelings while reading this. Or I am just too used to these sad mpreg stories. Who knows! idk  Shrugs
